Brad Marchand had a bad day at the office Thursday, but was mercifully bailed out by one of his teammates.

After the Boston Bruins forward missed two wide-open chances to score in a tight game against the Detroit Red Wings, he was being fitted for a giant pair of goat horns.

The biggest miss came late in regulation. With the score tied 2-2, Marchand took a pass just outside the Detroit crease with goalie Jonas Gustavsson nowhere in the vicinity. Marchand tried to slam the puck home and shot it wide of the far post.

But thanks to Jarome Iginla’s game-winning overtime goal, Marchand was off the hook.

“I think I gave him a huge kiss,” Marchand told reporters after the game. “It was great to have him score that goal and I’ll be able to sleep good tonight.”

Boston won Game 4 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinal series 3-2 and head home with a 3-1 series lead.
