BOSTON - In theory, the President’s Trophy-winning Bruins have home-ice advantage throughout the Stanley Cup playoffs.

In reality, they’ve already surrendered it in their opening-round Eastern Conference quarter-final.

With that in mind, there will be a sense of desperation on Sunday afternoon when the Bruins face the Detroit Red Wings in Game 2 of the best-of-seven. And leading the focus will be finding a way to create some offence against the stingy Wings defenders, who shut down the Bruins with a 1-0 victory in Game 1 on Friday night.

"It was a tight checking game,” Bruins coach Claude Julien said. “I think everybody's got to find a way to create more, and that's going to be the challenge in this series with two teams playing really tight.

“It's about everybody working a little harder and then gaining your space.”

The youthful Red Wings came into the series confident and it showed on Friday against a Bruins group that was tentative much of the night. Expect more of the same from Mike Babcock’s team Sunday at the TD Garden, especially with the prospect of opening up a commanding 2-0 lead before the series shifts back to the Motor City for Games 3 and 4.

"[Boston is] going to push hard,” said Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard, who made 25 saves for the shutout in Game 1. “They're going to push hard the whole game.

"They're going to ratchet it up and we're going to have to answer. It's just part of the playoffs. As each game goes you just try and get better and better.”

Puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday.
