DENVER - To a lot of the people who witnessed the post-season train wrecks in Phoenix and Philadelphia first hand, putting Ilya Bryzgalov in charge of your playoff fortunes is like putting an arsonist in charge of the fireworks.

He might have the best intentions, might even appear reformed, but there is always an underlying fear that if his irresistible urges take over, the explosion will be spectacular.

The Minnesota Wild don’t see it that way at all, not that they have much choice.

Having gone through goalies like Spinal Tap goes through drummers — Josh Harding is on injured reserve with multiple sclerosis, Niklas Backstrom is done after undergoing abdominal surgery and Darcy Kuemper (lower body) hasn’t played since late March — their playoff starter has been named by the process of elimination.

They will face the Colorado Avalanche with the quirky 33-year-old Russian as their last line of defence.

But they’re cool with that.
