BOSTON - The way his team has been playing for most of the past month, Boston Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli is bracing for some heavy lifting over the next couple of weeks.

It isn’t just the expectation that a best-of-seven series with the Toronto Maple Leafs being a physical war, either.

The past two springs, his team has played 14 games in the first round of the playoffs, with mixed results. Two years ago, a hard-fought seven-game battle with the Montreal Canadiens was the initial step towards a Stanley Cup title.
