Roberto Luongo is standing behind his words, even if the Boston Bruins don't like it.

Luongo created a media stir after his Canucks beat the Bruins 1-0 in Game 5 on Friday when he said he would have stopped the game winner by Maxim Lapierre that beat Tim Thomas.

The goal came when Kevin Bieksa directed the puck off the kicker board behind the Canucks net and out the other side, where Lapierre quickly flicked the puck off a scrambling Thomas and over the goal line.

Luongo said after the game that he would have turned aside Lapierre's effort because, unlike Thomas, he plays back on his goal line.

Less than 24 hours later, Luongo wasn't changing his tune, adding that he praised Thomas earlier in the series. The Boston goalie, meanwhile, has failed to offer any kudos to his counterpart.

Asked about his post-game comments, Luongo replied: "I also said he might make some saves that I don't.

"I've been pumping his tires ever since the series has started, I haven¹t heard one nice thing he has to say about me. That¹s the way it is.

"Every little thing is going to be blown out of proportion. He has his style and I have mine, that's the way it goes." Bruins coach Claude Julien responded by pointing to Thomas' superior numbers to Luongo's in this series.

"He's given up six goals in five games," Julien said of Thomas. "The guy that made the comment, I'm not quite sure how many he let in. I think you guys have a good idea, so I don't think he's going to lose sleep over that."

Zing.

Added Bruins forward Chris Kelly: "It's unfortunate that (Luongo) is commenting on another good goalie's performance. I don't think Timmy has commented on his style.

"Obviously Timmy has been unbelievable for us. We wouldn't be where we are if it wasn't for him so that's really all you can say about that.

"At this point in the year I don't think you need extra motivation to get up for the next game."
