BOSTON - Mike Murphy is demanding a stop to all the "crap" and "garbage" in the Stanley Cup final.

In a series that has produced The Burrows Bite, the mocking of Patrice Bergeron by Maxim Lapierre and the heinous diving that is more common at a World Cup soccer tournament, Murphy and other NHL officials met with both the Boston Bruins and Vancouver Canucks Tuesday in an attempt to quash the embarrassing antics.

The circus-like theatrics have become a blemish on a league that is hoping to build on strong TV numbers, especially in the U.S.

Canucks forward Alex Burrows kicked off the shenanigans in Game 1 when he chewed on Bruin Bergeron's glove. Burrows did not get suspended.

"We will deal with the issues of the series, the chippiness that's going on," Murphy, an NHL senior-vice president, said Tuesday, adding that the league made "the right decision" on Burrows.

"Kris King (another senior vice-president) is in charge of the series. We've addressed it. We've addressed it with the teams as early as (Tuesday) morning. I will be speaking with both general managers and coaches before the day is over about what we are seeing, the garbage and the crap."

Asked about all the scrums and sideshows on display between whistles, Canucks captain Henrik Sedin said he did not think they were an issue other than in the third period of Game 3 Monday.

Memo to Sedin: Did you forget that Bite-Gate took place in Game 1?

Or that Vancouver's Lapierre made fun of the league's decision not to punish Burrows by wagging his fingers near Bergeron's mouth in Game 2, a gesture that the Bruins then mimicked in retaliation in Game 3?

"That stuff is going to stop," Sedin said.

Murphy and his staff will do everything in their power to ensure it does.
