Interesting odds for Cup decider

We have heard often over the past 48 hour that history is stacked against the visiting team in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals.

So too are the oddsmakers this time around as the Pittsburgh Penguins have been made huge underdogs in tonight's deciding game at Joe Louis Arena.

Money in Las Vegas has been pouring in on the Red Wings the past two days, so much so that they are prohibitive 1-2 favourites to repeat as Stanley Cup champions. At that price, bettors would have to fork over $20 to make a $10 profit. A $20 bet on the Penguins, meanwhile, would return a $34 profit.

When Las Vegas Sports Consultants posted an initial line on that game, they Wings were more modest -125 favourites but almost all the money, it seems, has come in on Detroit in the hours leading to the big contest.

With an 11-1 home record in these playoffs -- including 3-0 in this series -- bettors and linemakers alike are all but ruling out the Penguins, who lost to Detroit in six games in last year's final.

Almost all of the major Vegas betting shops have the Pens at -200 (which translates to 1-2), including Caesar's Palace and the MGM/Mirage group of casinos. The Las Vegas Hilton offers Pens backers a slightly better price with a -190 price tag.

The Wings have been favoured for all three previous home games in this series, but nowhere near as heavily as they are tonight with a betting line that suggests the Wings are as close to a sure thing as you can find.
