WASHINGTON - The lineups have just been released for Saturday’s pivotal Game 5 of the Eastern Conference semi-final and as expected Pittsburgh defenceman Sergei Gonchar will not be in the lineup.

The Russian will be out indefinitely recuperating from a a knee injury suffered from knee-to-knee contact with Washington star Alex Ovechkin in Friday’s 5-3 Penguins win at Pittsburgh.

Despite the protestations of the Penguins, the league has decided on no further punishment for Ovechkin, who is in the Caps lineup.

Pens coach Dan Bylsma said Gonchar’s injury was not as severe as initially thought, but the coach declined to say whether the veteran defenceman and anchor of the team’s power play will return these playoffs.

“We evaluated him and continue to evaluate him,” Bylsma said today. “It’s more or less how he’s going to respond. The swelling has not been significant but it’s going to be day-to-day, game-time for Sergei.

“He’s not doing as bad as we thought and it will be game-time as far as our decisions with our lineup.”
