Celebrity bloggers weigh in

Hockey has gone Hollywood.

The NHL's website, nhl.com, has seen celebrity blogs spring up on the eve of the 2008-09 post-season, with TV and silver screen luminaries chatting up their favourite teams.

As for the Calgary Flames, they, too, have gone Hollywood -- or more specifically Beverly Hills -- in terms of the lone celeb rooting for them to claim Lord Stanley's mug.

Former Beverly Hills 90210 star Tori Spelling has thrown her lot in with the Flames, joining hubby and Oxygen reality TV series co-star Dean McDermott for a touch of Red Mile madness from afar.

"Dean is a big hockey fan and the duo enjoys taking their young son, Liam, to hockey games whenever their schedules allow," says the glam couple's blog profile.

The Flames begin their firstround series versus the Chicago Blackhawks today in the Windy City.

The other Canadian squads with playoff berths have also earned celeb props.

Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Jason Reitman is blogging on behalf of the Vancouver Canucks and not without a bit of vitriol aimed at the St. Louis Blues, their first-round opponent.

"Everyone in the Blues organization is dead to me," wrote Reitman, who predicts the Canucks winning in six.

"Their starting goalie is Chris Mason ... four words -- 'Welcome to the Playoffs.' Oh, and have you met my friend Bobby Lou?" he added, referring to superstar Vancouver backstopper Roberto Luongo.

As for the other Canadian team in the playoffs, the Montreal Canadiens, celeb bloggers are forecasting a rowdy, fisticuff-laden first-round tilt against the Boston Bruins.

The two teams' last regular season meeting April 9 was a rough affair with 76 penalty minutes served.

"I don't doubt this matchup with Boston is going to be bench-clearing for all seven games," predicts Montreal-born actor Jay Baruchel, who most recently starred in Tropic Thunder.

"There's a myriad of things about the Bruins that scare me, but that being said, there's nothing we can't handle."
