Tie Domi is considering filing a lawsuit against an Ottawa radio show host who made false and disparaging on-air remarks about Domi and his wife on Tuesday.

"The innuendoes are defamatory and there are legal remedies for that," Domi's agent, Pat Morris, said last night. "They were hurtful and tasteless and it is a sensitive issue.

"(Whether a lawsuit will be filed) is a decision that will be made when I get full review of this area of the law. (Domi) was hurt by the comments."

Don (Dandyman) Romani of The Team 1200 in Ottawa led off his afternoon show with an apology to Domi yesterday and said his comments were "a mistake and intended to be humorous," but Romani couldn't erase what he said a day earlier.

"One would suspect that she could take a good punch," Romani said on the air in a reference to Domi's wife, Leanne.

Moments later, Romani said: "I'll bet you his idea of aerobics is to bang her around a bit once a week."

Romani said he would donate money to womens' shelters. The radio station said Romani would be reprimanded.

Domi refused to address the comments specifically.

"I have no comment and I am focused on the game (tonight)," Domi said. "It is a disturbing thing but I can't let those things bother me at this time."

Morris gave the impression that if a lawsuit is filed, it would not be until after Domi's season is finished. Morris said the apology was "a good first step."

Leafs general manager John Ferguson Jr. was as forthcoming as Morris when asked about Romani's words.

 OFFENSIVE

"(They were) certainly low class and offensive at best, and potentially actionable," Ferguson said. "We take it very seriously, but it will not distract from our mission to win the Cup."

Domi did want to get something else off his chest, however. Peter Bondra said he thinks the series could be "a war."

"Using the word war is getting a little stupid in our game, especially in our rivalry," Domi said. "Out of respect to the war that is going on, I don't think it should be used. Those guys are fighting a real war and it is insulting to them."
