Domi says he's no headhunter

TORONTO -- Tie Domi didn't appreciate accusations by Senators W Peter Bondra that the Maple Leafs' tough guy went headhunting last Saturday in Ottawa.

"It's a contact sport," Domi told the Sun yesterday. "You've got to keep your head up. It was a clean hit."

Bondra left the game with a sore back, but will play in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference quarter-final tonight at the Air Canada Centre. Following the hit, Domi was elbowed by Senators W Bryan Smolinski. Domi said Smolinski's elbow was a cheap shot but also that it was part of the game.

"End of story," Domi said. "God forbid if I had done that. Did I cry that it should have been a penalty? No. Did I cry that it should have been a suspension? No. Did I lie on the ice like I was dead? No."

PRUSEK READY: Senators backup G Martin Prusek said if starter Patrick Lalime isn't able to play in tonight's Game 1, then he'll be set to go. "That's my job ... I have to be ready to play and get the job done," said Prusek, who was pulled in Saturday's 6-0 loss after allowing three goals on nine shots. "We're all in this together. If Prusek gets the chance to play for us, he's done a good job all year and he can get the job done," said Lalime. G Ray Emery, who suited up for Binghamton last night, will join the team today. It should be noted that Toronto G Ed Belfour didn't practise with the Leafs yesterday. He was given the day off to rest his sore back. He will start in goal.

THE SPEZZA QUESTION: Senators C Jason Spezza wasn't on a line in practice yesterday, but he said the "lower-body" injury that kept him out of the final two games of the regular season won't be a problem. If Spezza plays, LW Antoine Vermette will likely be a healthy scratch. "It would be disappointing if I didn't get the chance to play," said Spezza. "Obviously, you want to play in the playoffs and it's exciting." The decision as to whether Spezza plays won't be made until after the morning skate, but there are no guarantees he will be in the lineup.
