Klee still can't shoulder load

KEN KLEE probably didn't like going to see the doctor when he was a kid and his visit on Wednesday was no more enjoyable.

The Maple Leafs defenceman, who didn't indicate whether he got a lollipop on the way out, was told to give his shoulder injury another couple of days rest. As a result, Klee was not in the lineup last night as the Leafs and Ottawa Senators renewed playoff hostilities.

"In my mind I want to play now, but (club doctors) are more worried about it long-term,"Klee said after a vigorous workout in the morning skate. "I definitely want to get back in there. It's disappointing but it will be a long series, and with this kind of team I think we can go a long way. I want to be healthy for the whole run, not just one game."

Will playing in Game 2 tomorrow night be possible?

"I hope so," Klee said.

RETURNING SOON

Darcy Tucker, the other Leaf who has a strong chance of returning soon from injury, did not play last night. Tucker, who missed the final 13 games of the season with groin/abdominal woes, said he "felt pretty good" but didn't want to rush back either. The other injured Leaf, Owen Nolan, is thought to be done for the season. Nolan is nursing a right knee injury.

Tucker must not have heard about teammate Tie Domi's protest, a day earlier, of the use of the word "war" by players in describing the series.

"I'm an intense guy and I like to be out there with the guys," Tucker said. "They are going to war every night and I want to feel part of what they are going through."

There's is little doubt Klee and Tucker will be ready to return at some point in the series. Coach Pat Quinn knows that will mean two players who played last night will come out. What Quinn hopes is that some of his players are not worried about being replaced.

"At this time I don't think any of these guys would need that sort of push," Quinn said. "That is not the sort of apprehension you need. You don't want to give up your job."
