Love's in the air for Sens

Thursday night's 4-2 win was like Valentine's Day in April for Senators fans. The boys showed their love with an outstanding effort.

Martin Havlat and Bryan Smolinski were in the right place, right time all game long. Two words: Dream Team.

Wondering if Patrick Lalime's performance quiets criticism of Ottawa's goaltending?

I expect the same type of play from our Senators tonight. Quick feet, hard hits and big goals.

As for the Leafs, too many penalties ... need I say more?

Unless Leafs coach Pat Quinn can change the rulebook to allow unsportsmanlike conduct, obstruction and roughing, his team may be in for a short playoff season. Get the message ... the league is not taking this type of crap anymore.

GREAT RIVALRY: Much of the beauty of hockey lies in the emotional volatility of the players. The game's warriors excite and despair more easily and in general have a full passion for the game. This is also true for many fans as this passion creates rivalries and controversy. Are rivalries good for sports? You bet. Sure, it sparks trash talk and can even get a little personal as some bring it too far over the edge. The T.O. fans boo Alfie every time he steps onto the ice -- now that's original. But for the most part, the positives outweigh the negatives.

NO POLITICS: Politicians shouldn't stick their nose in where it doesn't belong -- the sports arena. Fining Leafs fans for wearing their jerseys to the Corel Centre? There must be a better way to raise money for the Food Bank. Don't alienate Leafs fans -- we want their money.

BAD HAB-ITS: What's with the MTL or TML on the Leafs' jerseys and merchandise? Isn't that a Montreal thing? Don't they have their own heritage? All very confusing.

QUICK HITS: Fans, you're not wearing equipment so keep the hitting and elbows to the boys on the ice ... I've got a love-hate thing going with my man Jacques Martin. Kudos for a well-executed game plan. Keep the wins coming, Smiley ... Scary but true: Compared to Bryan Marchment, Tie Domi looks like a supermodel ... A trim just won't cut it (no pun intended) -- I know it's the playoffs, but one has got to go Alfie -- beard or hair -- pick one ... Anybody see the interview with Saku Koivu? Good God, who dresses that boy?
