 SUN THREE STARS:

 1. MATT COOKE, Canucks: Netted the winner for Vancouver in the third period.

 2. CHRIS SIMON, Flames: Collected Calgary's only goal while delivering some punishing hits.

 3. JOHAN HEDBERG, Canucks: Allowed a goal on first shot he faced but was solid replacing Dan Cloutier in net.

 TURNING POINT:

 Canucks C Matt Cooke slipped into the Flames' zone, gathered up a pass and whipped a wrist shot past Flames goalie Miikka Kiprusoff early in the third for the game-winning goal.

 HIT OF THE GAME:

 It wasn't the most legal hit but it may have been the most painful as Flames LW Chris Simon launched himself into Sami Salo in the first period, pounding the Canucks d-man against the glass behind Vancouver's net. Salo appeared injured as he headed to the bench but returned later in the period while Simon was sentenced two minutes for boarding.

 SAVE OF THE GAME:

 Flames G Miikka Kiprusoff flicked out his right pad to deny Canucks D Ed Jovanovski's deflection of a point shot during a first-period powerplay.

 FIGHT CARD:

 Jarome Iginla dropped the glove with Mattias Ohlund with seconds on the clock after taking a nasty hit from the Canucks d-man.

 SCRATCHES:

 *Flames -- C Steve Reinprecht (shoulder surgery) and C Dean McAmmond (back) are out for the season, LW Dave Lowry (abdominals) and C Stephane Yelle (hip) are day-to-day while healthy scratches were LW Lynn Loyns, LW Martin Sonnenberg, D Mike Commodore, D Steve Montador.

 *Canucks -- LW Magnus Arvedson (knee) is out for the season and C Mats Lindgren (back) and D Bryan Allen (shoulder) are out indefinitely while healthy scratches C Brandon Reid, D Kirill Koltsev, D Jaroslav Obsut, RW Pat Kavanaugh, D Nolan Baumgartner, D Bryan Allen, C Jason King, C Ryan Kesler, D Wade Brookbank, RW Tyler Bouck.

 WHAT IT MEANS:

 The Canucks assume a 2-1 edge in the best-of-seven Western Conference quarter-final heading into tomorrow night's Game 4 at the 'Dome.

 NOTABLES:

 Flames D Toni Lydman left the contest in the third period after what the team termed an "upper-body" injury ... Canucks starting G Dan Cloutier left the game in the first period after suffering an apparent knee injury ... The early birds in the Playoff Zone kicked off the 'Go Flames Go' chant 80 minutes before game time ... Flames LW Oleg Saprykin received the first roar from the crowd before the game started, firing a puck into Vancouver's net after warmups ... Flames C Craig Conroy left the game early in the second period after suffering a an apparent mouth injury.
