Birthday boy takes the cake ... in the face

To celebrate Krzysztof Oliwa's 31st birthday, the Flames gang pitched together for a pie.

He didn't share any of it, though.

Not because Oliwa wasn't in a giving mood, it's because he ended up wearing the, uh, treat.

 On his face.

"Shaving cream flavour, not very tasty," said Oliwa, who left the ice to clean the foam from his face and said he wasn't concerned about tearing the culprit apart limb from limb.

"I'm officially NHL old, 31," he said with a chuckle. "It's fun. You need something like that, we have to be focused for the game but it's important to have fun.

"I'll make sure I write down everybody's birthdays from now on. I'll keep it in mind."

The perpetrator was none other than Robyn Regehr, a regular practical joker.

"Thirty-one years old. He looks like he's 50 but it's 31," Regehr said. "He made the mistake of mentioning it in the dressing room this morning.

"We've gotten a few other guys with the same thing so he should have fully expected that."

With a pivotal fourth game against Vancouver set for tonight, Regehr pointed out a little bit of levity is more than needed.

"It's part of being around a team like this," he said. "It's guys you battle with every day. Something like that, a guy's birthday, is special and you want to help him celebrate."
