Game Over

RANDY SPORTAK -- Calgary Sun

, Last Updated: 2:53 PM ET

 SUN THREE-STAR SELECTION:

 1. Jarome Iginla, Flames.

 2. Miikka Kiprusoff, Flames.

 3. Henrik Sedin, Flames.

 TURNING POINT:

Jarome Iginla's goal early in the third period, a long deflection that bounced and eluded the netminder, broke open a 1-1 deadlock. With Miikka Kiprusoff again providing outstanding netminding, it was enough.

 SAVE OF THE GAME:

Midway through the second period, Vancouver momentarily appeared ready to open the scoring. Geoff Sanderson was parked on the doorstep of the crease and neatly redirected Daniel Sedin's sharp-angled pass. However, Miikka Kiprusoff made his way across the crease in time and stuck out his right leg for the amazing stop.

 HIT OF THE GAME:

Calgary's Martin Gelinas was driving hard into the Canucks zone but was stopped with a solid -- and clean -- check. Young Vancouver centre Artem Chubarov gave a classic hip check, something refreshing with all the dirty hits that were going on.

 UNSUNG HERO:

Playing through a supreme amount of pain from a hip injury that cost him seven games, Stephane Yelle did a terrific job on faceoffs and on the penalty kill.

 SCRATCHES:

For the Flames, LW Chris Simon (lower body), D Toni Lydman (upper body), C Dean McAmmond (back), LW Dave Lowry (abdomen), C Steve Reinprecht, D Steve Montador, LW Lynn Loyns and LW Martin Sonnenberg were scratched.

Vancouver sat G Dan Cloutier (ankle), G Robert McVicar, D Nolan Baumgartner, LW Brad May, RW Pat Kavanagh, RW Jason King, C Ryan Kesler, D Marc Bergevin, D Jaroslav Obsut, D Wade Brookbank, C Brandon Reid, D Kiril Koltsov, LW Magnus Arvedson (knee) and C Mats Lindgren.

 WHAT IT MEANS:

A huge edge for the Flames, who now lead the series by a 3-2 count and have two cracks at vanquishing their opposition.

 NOTEWORTHY:

The Canucks have unveiled their latest product: Potato chips. Yep, you read right. Canucks Ripple Chips are available throughout the Lower Mainland and if you buy 10 bags, you can send the proof of purchase symbols for a free T-shirt ... Vancouver RW Tyler Bouck played his first game of the series ... C Matthew Lombardi went to the Flames dressing room late in the first period after blocking a shot that hit him between the knee and the thigh pad. He returned after the intermission ... Jarome Iginla extended his point-scoring streak to four games. He had two goals and a helper in the first three outings of his run.

GAME 6 -- Canucks at Flames Tomorrow, 8 P.M., CBC, Flames Lead 3-2
