, Last Updated: 4:06 PM ET

 SUN THREE STARS:

 1. RW Jarome Iginla, Flames

 2. G Miikka Kiprusoff, Flames

 3. LW Matt Cooke, Canucks

 TURNING POINT:

Martin Gelinas scooped up the loose puck and shovelled it past Alex Auld just 1:25 into overtime to end the series.

 SAVE(S) OF THE GAME:

A couple by G Miikka Kiprusoff off LW Daniel Sedin at the side of the crease to help kill off a second-period penalty to C Craig Conroy just moments before the game's opening goal by the Flames.

 HIT OF THE GAME:

LW Mike Keane set the tone for a physical opening five minutes played by the host Canucks with a level of LW Martin Gelinas just inside the Canucks zone 65 seconds after the opening faceoff.

 UNSUNG HERO:

D Steve Montador, drew in for Game 7 with a lower body injury to D Denis Gauthier and played his first NHL playoff game in his hometown. Yet he rarely looked out of place on the Flames blueline.

 FIGHT CARD:

 None.

 SCRATCHES:

For the Flames, D Denis Gauthier (lower body), D Toni Lydman (upper body), LW Chris Simon (lower body), C Dean McAmmond (sore back), C Steven Reinprecht (fractured shoulder), LW Dave Lowry (abdominal strain, pelvis) and D Mike Commodore (separated shoulder) were all sidelined by injuries, while LW Lynn Loyns and LW Martin Sonnenberg were healthy scratches. For the Canucks, LW Magnus Arvedson (knee surgery), C Mats Lindgren (back surgery) and G Dan Cloutier (sprained ankle) were all sidelined by injuries, while D Nolan Baumgartner, RW Pat Kavanagh, RW Jason King, C Ryan Kesler, D Marc Bergevin, D Jaroslav Obsut, D Wade Brookbank, C Brandon Reid, RW Tyler Bouck and D Kiril Koltsov were all healthy scratches.

 WHAT IT MEANS:

The Flames win the best-of-seven first-round series in seven games and advance to the second round to play the Detroit Red Wings, the top seed in the Western Conference.

 NOTEWORTHY:

C Craig Conroy took the clear visor off his helmet for last night's game and played with a mask protecting just his jaw and mouth. He took stitches both inside and outside his mouth after getting hit with the stick of G Johan Hedberg on a clearing attempt in Game 4 ... LW Dave Lowry's wife Elaine participated in her third Boston Marathon yesterday and was on hand later for the Montreal Canadiens' elimination of the hometown Boston Bruins at the FleetCenter ... Wayne Gretzky was among the fans in attendance at G.M. Place last night, looking as if he was making notes. Perhaps for the upcoming World Cup of Hockey? ... Several pockets of Flames fans were seen throughout the season. The most red could be found in the lower-bowl section directly behind the Canucks net and in one of the building's sky suites.

ROUND 2 THURSDAY: FLAMES AT RED WINGS, 5:30 P.M., TV: CBC, RADIO: FAN 960
