 COMING IN:

The Flames took their best-of-seven series with the Vancouver Canucks 4-3 after winning 3-2 in overtime Monday night on the West Coast. The second-round appearance is their first in 15 years. The Red Wings, who have won three NHL titles in the last seven years, are coming off a 4-2 first-round series triumph over the Nashville Predators. It's their first trip to the second round in two years after being swept in the opening round by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim last spring.

 HEAD-TO-HEAD:

The only time the Flames have ever faced the Red Wings in post-season play was during a best-of-three first-round series in 1978, when the Wings scored 5-3 and 3-2 wins over the then-Atlanta Flames. In four meetings during the regular season, the Flames finished 1-3 against the Red Wings. They lost a pair of games at the Saddledome -- 3-0 on Nov. 4 and 2-1 on Feb. 26. And at Joe Louis Arena, the Flames lost 2-1 on March 3 before rebounding for a convincing 4-1 win March 16. All-time, the Flames are 37-37-11 since moving to Calgary, consisting of a 24-16-3 mark in Calgary and a 13-21-8 record in Detroit.
