Hot tickets up for grabs

The mother lode of Round 2 playoff tickets goes up for grabs today for treasure-hunting Flames zealots.

Up to 2,000 tickets for each of Games 3 and 4 go on the Internet block starting at noon.

Those quickest with the mouse can trap a maximum of two tickets each.

Judging from the rush for ducats through a coupon draw at Sport Chek stores and playoff seats with the purchase of season tickets or game packages, today's sale will be short-lived, said Flames ticket manager Rollie Cyr.

"Everybody wants more tickets -- we could probably sell out the building three times over," said Cyr.

Sport Chek stores said they did a brisk business -- in some cases filling multiple shopping bags full of lottery coupons after ballot boxes were stuffed.

"There's a big demand for them and (Thursday) night's game against Detroit didn't slow it down, that's for sure," said Bill Nelson, senior vice-president of operations for the Forzani Group.

The names of the Sport Chek lottery winners are published in today's Sun. The remaining ducats go on sale at www.calgaryflames.com and ticketmaster.ca.

Cyr said the system has generally been well-received, in contrast to anger over chaotic lineups that appeared among ticket-seekers in the first playoff round against Vancouver.

"I think we're striking the most reasonable chord in terms of making them fairly and broadly available," he said.

A few more tickets could be made available if both NHL clubs decide not to use all of their seat allotment, said Cyr.

 FLAMES FANS ARE... STOKED!

An early victory in self-described hockeytown Detroit has further stoked Flames fans still basking in the first series triumph over Vancouver.

 * A Flames fight song using the voice of American Idol's tuneless wonder William Hung is now assaulting ear drums.

 * Yesterday, truck driver Shawn Crucil, who lost a bet on the outcome of Thursday night's Detroit game to his United Rentals co-workers, paraded in a skirt and frilly hat on the corner of Blackfoot Tr. and 46 Ave. S.E.

 * Frank Sisson's Fire & Ice Girls -- the trio helping maintain the Pengrowth Saddledome ice -- has become a fixture at venues ranging from bars to hospitals. During the playoffs, they're taking donations for the Alberta Children's Hospital.
