 FIRST PERIOD:

 Just 90 seconds in, Sharks defenceman Kyle McLaren jumps on a rebound in the slot but his backhand is turned aside by Miikka Kiprusoff.

 The Flames race down the ice as Jordan Leopold is afforded the team's best chance early, a slapshot from the top of the circle that Evgeni Nabokov grabs with his glove.

 Five minutes in, Shark Scott Thornton's rebound in traffic rattles off the post to Kiprusoff's glove side but bounces harmlessly away.

 Seconds later, Craig Conroy works the puck out of the corner and takes a shot before Jarome Iginla misses the open side with the rebound.

 Sharks centre Curtis Brown is then thwarted by Kiprusoff from close range.

 Shark Alyn McCauley hooks Chris Clark around the neck, drawing the first minor of the period at 10:45. Iginla and Robyn Regehr provide the Flames with their two best chances with the man advantage, both with point shots that Nabokov handles.

 Flames centre Stephane Yelle is called for interference at 16:51, sending the Sharks on the PP for the first time yet they fail to gain possession inside Calgary's blueline.

 Flames winger Chris Simon is called for interference at 19:50.

 * FIRST-PERIOD STAR: Robyn Regehr, Flames.

 SECOND PERIOD:

 The Flames successfully kill off the minor to Chris Simon before Stephane Yelle tests Evgeni Nabokov's glove hand with a slapshot as he crosses the Sharks blueline.

 The Sharks break out on an odd-man rush with Alexander Korolyuk dishing a pass to Vincent Damphousse, who buries a backhander past a screened Kiprusoff for a 1-0 lead at 7:31.

 At 9:01, Damphousse elbows Flames winger Marcus Nilson in the face, sending Calgary on the powerplay for the second time.

 Nabokov grabs Jarome Iginla's slapshot from the point, the Flames' fourth shot with the man-advantage, though none of the chances is dangerous.

 The Flames end a lengthy sequence with possession in the Sharks' zone as defenceman Mike Commodore slides in from the point for a wrist shot headed for the top corner that Nabokov grabs with his glove.

 Brad Stuart trips up Shean Donovan at 14:30 as the Flames winger chips the puck off the boards at mid-ice looking for a breakaway.

 The Flames powerplay is ineffective, although Andrew Ference has a decent scoring chance with a shot from the point that fails to squeeze through traffic.

 With two minutes remaining, Shark Scott Hannan walks in from the right circle, snapping a quick shot that Kiprusoff can't corral.

 The Flames goalie then flashes his glove hand to prevent Hannan from potting his own rebound.

 * SECOND-PERIOD STAR: Vincent Damphousse, Sharks.

 THIRD PERIOD:

 Four minutes in, Flames winger Chris Clark runs interference, drawing two Sharks defenders with him, allowing Craig Conroy to skate into the San Jose slot for a shot that Evgeni Nabokov kicks out with his right pad.

 Jarome Iginla chips the puck off the boards and races down ice on a two-on-one and tries to slips a backhand pass to Marcus Nilson that his linemate can't control.

 A minute later, Iginla tests Nabokov with a quick wrist shot the Sharks goalie turns aside with his stick.

 With seven minutes remaining, Ville Nieminen is denied by Nabokov on a wraparound.

 Two minutes later, Steve Montador's point shot is kicked out leaving Martin Gelinas with a rebound that ke fails to bury.

 With just 1:50 remaining, Alexander Korolyuk dashes away on a breakaway, potting a backhander past Kiprusoff for insurance. Korolyuk added an empty-net goal to salt the win away.
