Taking turns on the tube

They're already stars in the eyes of hockey fans but some people think you haven't made it until you're on MTV.

The Calgary Flames did just that yesterday, taking turns taping song introductions for MTV Canada, which had a film crew in the team's dressing room.

Although the Flames players were good sports about the promo, the squad appears void of future TV stars.

Rugged winger Krzysztof Oliwa, the Polish Hammer, not MC Hammer, struggled in his second language reading the line: "Did you know the last Canadian team to play in the Stanley Cup final was 10 years ago?"

He couldn't spit it out until Chris Simon sauntered over, placing his arm around his teammate.

"He always feels better when I'm around," Simon laughed.

Chatterbox Craig Conroy, who never met a microphone he didn't like, also took a shot at TV stardom.

Conroy stumbled over his lines insisting the pressure was getting him and wondered, "How do you guys do this in front of the camera?"

Breaking into a sweat, the likable centre was forced to slip off his leather jacket.

The introductions will precede videos with fire-related themes, an obvious tie-in to the Flames' appearance in the Stanley Cup final beginning Tuesday in Tampa Bay.

The MTV spot airs May 31.
