Hair goes nothing

Mike Commodore's flowing red mop will soon be reduced to stubble.

Living up to an agreement with his mother Eleanore, principal of Fort Saskatchewan high school, the Flames defenceman will lose his lid to his alma mater's fundraising drive for cancer.

"Without Mike doing this, our students have already raised $17,000," Eleanore said.

Mike's younger brother Matt will also be losing his locks at the assembly, which will be for staff, students and invited guests only.

Although fans are used to seeing the vibrant red mane, Eleanore said her son often cuts it back when warm weather begins.

"I knew he couldn't keep the mop for the summer," she said.

Eleanore said despite the Game 7 loss, she's proud of her son and his team.

"They rallied in the third period but one has to put these things in perspective," she said.

For her, it's a case of having to pick up and move on but she is appreciative of students and staff offering their condolences.

Though a date hasn't been hammered out, Eleanore said she expects Mike to make the trip late this week, or early next week.
