Pens acquire Vokoun from Caps

The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired veteran Tomas Vokoun on Monday to serve as their backup goalie.
The Penguins sent a seventh-round draft pick to the Washington Capitals for Vokoun, who was slated to become a free agent July 1 but immediately signed a two-year, $4-million contract with Pittsburgh.
Vokoun, 35, had a 25-17-2 record with a 2.51 goals-against average and .917 save percentage in his one season with the Capitals. He suffered a groin injury in late March and sat out the playoffs. The native of the Czech Republic has a 287-284-78 career record with a 2.55 GAA and .917 save percentage in 680 games with Montreal, Nashville, Florida and Washington.
The Penguins expect Vokoun to replace Brent Johnson -- eligible for unrestricted free agency -- as the backup to Marc-Andre Fleury.
Fleury tied a career high by appearing in 67 games in 2011-12.
The native of the Czech Republic carries a 287-284-78 record, 2.55 GAA and .917 save percentage in 680 NHL games with Montreal, Nashville, Florida and Washington.
