PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Penguins centre Evgeni Malkin will join teammate Sidney Crosby on the sideline for this weekend's all-star game because of a sinus infection.

The news comes one day after it was learned that Crosby will also sit out Sunday's contest while he continues his recovery from a concussion.

Malkin has missed Pittsburgh's last two games because of the sinus issue and has also been bothered by a balky knee of late. He will also sit out Tuesday against the New York Islanders -- Pittsburgh's last game before the All-Star break.

"Evgeni Malkin was not out on the ice today and will not be in the game tonight," said Penguins head coach Dan Bylsma after Tuesday's morning skate. "He will also not be going to the all-star game this coming week due to the sinus infection. The symptoms from the sinus infection and pressure in his head are preventing him from going on the ice right now."

Malkin, who was voted into this year's All-Star Game by the fans, has 15 goals and 22 assists for 37 points in 42 games this season.
