Matt Niskanen was watching the latest episode of HBO’s 24/7 featuring the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals.

He watches them all anyway, but had a cameo in Wednesday’s edition.

Sidney Crosby and road roommate Pascal Dupuis were having a laugh over the Pens captain’s scrap with the Stars defenceman and the confusion over whether or not they should take their helmets off.

Neither are too familiar with fisticuffs — it was Crosby’s fifth NHL fight and Niskanen’s third.

“I wasn’t sure what the deal was with him. I just wanted to make sure I was doing it all the right way, I guess,” Niskanen said Thursday. “It’s not everyday you fight a guy like that.”

The 6-foot, 200-pounder definitely lost the decision, but he did get a shot in early on the game’s best player.

“Right away. I got him good once in the helmet. I don’t know if it hurt him at all,” he said with a laugh. “I kind of attempted another swing and then got off balance. I think I went for it all on the first swing. He’s pretty strong on his skates. He kind of rag-dolled me after that. He didn’t hit me with any big punches but ...

“I didn’t think he was gonna hurt me really bad with any punches, but he’s so strong on his feet. He was just kind of pushing me around. He got some swings in. Maybe connected on one or two.

“Once I got that good one in on his helmet, I kind of wished we’d taken our helmets off.”
