While his presence will be missed, Mario Lemieux's decision to sit out Canada's 2006 Winter Olympics hockey bid was a classy move, say local fans.

Citing health concerns -- and the need to make room on the bench for younger talent -- the 40-year-old Pittsburgh Penguins captain said yesterday he's pulling his name from consideration.

At Schanks South, Lorelle Choy and boyfriend Ben McNally said it was indeed sad to hear the Hall of Famer won't be playing.

"Behind Wayne Gretzky, he's probably one of the most gifted players out there ... but it was a gracious move for him to step down," said McNally.

Sam Kocsis added: "God bless him, but we have enough talent in this country that we'll win the gold medal without Mario Lemieux," said Kocsis.
