Phoenix goalie Jason LaBarbera's new mask will be a tribute to Pat Tillman and soldiers everywhere fighting for democracy.

Tillman, a safety with the Phoenix Cardinals, gave up his career in the NFL in the aftermath of Sept. 11, 2001 and joined the U.S. Army. He died in Afghanistan in 2004.

"I have a tremendous amount of respect for Pat Tillman and everything he did for this country," LaBarbera, a native of Burnaby, B.C., said. "Not many professional athletes would give up their playing careers to defend their country and fight for what they believe in. It was an incredible, selfless act and I just want to honour him and help keep his memory alive by putting some images of him on my mask."

For every win LaBarbera earns with the Coyotes this season, he will donate $420 to The Pat Tillman Foundation.
