GLENDALE, Ariz. -- The Phoenix Coyotes have signed defenseman Brandon Gormley, their first-round draft choice, to an entry-level contract.

Per team policy, no details of the deal were released.

Gormley played in 58 games last season with Moncton in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and recorded nine goals with 34 assists.

Phoenix then selected the 18-year-old with the 13th overall pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

"We are very pleased to sign Brandon," Coyotes general manager Don Maloney said. "He is a talented young defenceman and we are confident that he will be a big part of our organization for years to come."

Gormley has played in two games with Moncton this season and has a goal with four helpers.
