Phoenix Coyotes captain Shane Doan and Denis Coderre have settled their defamation lawsuit out of court.

The settlement was announced in a statement by Coderre's office Friday. A trial was scheduled to start Sept. 7 in Montreal.

Doan sued Coderre after the Liberal MP accused him of making derogatory statements towards a francophone referee during a game in Montreal on December 13, 2005. Doan was given a gross misconduct in the game but denied he made the comment and the league subsequently cleared him.

Coderre counter-sued, leading the two to the language stalemate.

Terms of the out-of-court settlement were not announced.
