Hamilton East-Stoney Creek MPP Paul Miller can't wait for a "Hockey Night in Hamilton."

Miller wore a Hamilton hockey jersey into the Ontario Legislature today to show his support for a NHL franchise on his home turf.

"We had an NHL franchise from 1920 to 1925 called the Hamilton Tigers," the NDP MPP said. "They then moved to New York City and became the New York Americans. So we've had an NHL team in Hamilton and we deserve another one."

Miller got the unanimous consent required from all his colleagues, of all political stripes, to wear the jersey in the legislature.

A tiger image on the back of his jersey symbolizes the long-ago Hamilton Tigers, while a coyote image stands for the team Miller hopes will move to Hamilton from Phoenix.

RIM co-CEO Jim Balsillie is trying to bring the bankrupt Phoenix Coyotes to southern Ontario.

Miller notes Hamilton has a fan base for a team and would be an economic boost to an area that is hurting.

"Hamilton really needs this," he said.

Do you think Coyotes players should be punished for their actions after the team’s Game 5 loss to the Kings?
