Atlanta Thrashers winger Scott Mellanby expressed concern yesterday for ex-teammate and friend Rick Tocchet.
"Obviously, everybody's taken aback by the situation, but I don't think things are as bad as they seem at this point," said Mellanby following Atlanta's practice at the University of Ottawa.
Tocchet, implicated in the U.S. for leading a gambling racket, served in Mellanby's wedding party.
"I just hope things work out the best for (Tocchet) and for the league, and that's really all I can say," said Mellanby. "He's my friend and he's a good person."
"Right now, there's lots of unknowns and speculation," said Thrashers coach Bob Hartley. "Let's let the league do their stuff."
