Ron Hextall was promoted to general manager of the Philadelphia Flyers one year after returning to the organization as assistant GM. Current general manager Paul Holmgren was named team president.
"I'm extremely excited about this new opportunity to manage the Philadelphia Flyers," Hextall said. "I look forward to working closely with Paul in our new hockey structure and working towards our ultimate goal of winning the Stanley Cup."
Holmgren became general manager in 2006 -- replacing Bobby Clarke -- and said last week he hoped to remain in that role.
"Ron is one of the league's bright young stars on the management side, and we're very fortunate to have him," owner Ed Snider said, adding that Holmgren did an "outstanding job."
