Restricted free agent forward Wayne Simmonds signed a two-year contract with the Philadelphia Flyers Thursday.

Simmonds, one of the players who went to Philly in the trade with Los Angeles that sent Mike Richards west, more than tripled his base salary from 2010-11, according to one report. CSNPhilly.com says the deal is worth $3.5 million.

"We think Wayne has some real upside in terms of offensive production," Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said on NHL.com. "So we look for some good things from Wayne."

The 22-year-old from Scarborough, Ont., had 14 goals and 16 assists in 80 games last season.
