TORONTO - Kris Versteeg may have sounded like a happy man to be dealt to the Philadelphia Flyers, but he wasn’t itching to get out of town.

In fact, Leafs general manager Brian Burke said the forward he acquired last summer from the Chicago Blackhawks was apologetic that things fell flat in his brief tenure as a Leaf.

“(Versteeg) said something that I respect and very few players have said to me over the years,” Burke said on Friday. “He said ‘I’m sorry it didn’t work out’ and I respect that.

“He didn’t have to say that. Through no

fault of his own and no lack of effort, it didn’t work out. Something that happens.

Sometimes you ask a girl out and it doesn’t work out.”
