Philadelphia - The Philadelphia Flyers activated defenseman Matt Walker from long-term injured reserve prior to Thursday's game in Boston.

Walker has been sidelined for the club's first 42 games by a pair of hip surgeries, the first of those on his right hip which kept him out of action 10-to-12 weeks.

Walker is believed to have suffered the injury during a fight with New Jersey Devils forward Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond in Philadelphia's first preseason game on September 21.

A second procedure was performed in mid-December on his opposite hip.

The 30-year-old Alberta native was acquired from Tampa Bay on July 19 in the trade that sent forward Simon Gagne to the Lightning.
