PHILADELPHIA -- Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger could be close to returning to the lineup, maybe a bit earlier than anticipated, according to general manager Paul Holmgren.

The six-time All-Star has been sidelined since December 15 when he suffered a broken first metatarsal in his right foot at Montreal. Pronger was originally expected to be out of action from 4-to-6 weeks.

He has been given the go-ahead to do some light skating starting Thursday and will be re-evaluated on January 12, Holmgren said on Wednesday. The GM added that the foot is healing "nicely."

Pronger has registered four goals and 11 assists for 15 points in 31 games this season.
