PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia Flyers announced that defenceman Matt Walker will undergo surgery on his right hip and be out 10-to-12 weeks.

The procedure to repair a boney impingement and a torn labrum will take place in Nashville on Wednesday and be performed by Dr. Thomas Byrd.

Walker is believed to have suffered the injury during a fight with New Jersey Devils forward Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond in Philadelphia's first preseason game on Sept. 21.

The Flyers acquired the 30-year-old Alberta native from Tampa Bay on July 19 in the trade that sent forward Simon Gagne to the Lightning.

Walker has four goals and 26 assists in 306 career games with St. Louis, Chicago and Tampa Bay.
