Winnipegger Riley Cote is turning in his equipment for a whistle.

The long-time enforcer with the Philadelphia Flyers announced his retirement on Monday and will join the Flyers’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms, as an assistant coach under Greg Gilbert.

Cote, 28, had one goal, seven points and 411 penalty minutes in 156 NHL games but suited up for only 15 last season — and none in the post-season during the Flyers run to the Stanley Cup final.
