Forsberg all but a Flyer

Peter Forsberg is likely to take a flyer on Philadelphia if he returns to the NHL this season.

A report in yesterday's Philadelphia Inquirer said that the 34-year-old free-agent centre could make a decision about his future as early as this weekend and he's leaning toward returning to the Flyers.

While Forberg's agent, Don Baizley, informed the Senators earlier this week they were on the short list of teams that the former Hart Trophy winner would be willing to play for, the Inquirer quoted a source close to Forsberg who said the centre is ready to commit to the Flyers.

But that's only half the story. The word is Forsberg isn't 100% sure about returning to the NHL because he's not certain if his foot can withstand the rigorous play.

Senators GM Bryan Murray said yesterday that he hasn't been told by the Forsberg camp Ottawa is out of the running.

"I've spoken to them, but I haven't heard anything. It wouldn't surprise me if he did go back to Philly, but I know he was going to continue working out with MoDo and I'm just waiting to see what happens," Murray said prior to last night's visit by the Panthers.

The Canucks, Avalanche and Ducks were also thought to be in the running for Forsberg's services.
