OTTAWA - David Legwand didn't waste any time hitting the ice in Ottawa.

Less than 24 hours after arriving in his new home, the Senators' centre -- signed as UFA on July 4 -- was on the ice with many of his new teammates for an informal skate at the Bell Sensplex.

Legwand, who makes his off-season home in Detroit, was signed to give the club some veteran leadership and bring some stability in the middle after the departure of captain Jason Spezza.

"I'm excited to get started and get going on a new adventure," said Legwand Thursday. "They've got a lot of good young players and a chance to make a run."

Legwand, 33, was signed to a two-year, $6 million deal by the organization. He had spent his whole career with Nashville until he was dealt to Detroit before last season's trade deadline in March.

He had discussions 6-to-8 teams while waiting for the dust to settle on where he may end up.
