Around mid-September Kyle Turris is set to tackle a couple of heavy new responsibilities.

He and wife Julie will become first-time parents, and he will report to his first NHL camp as a No. 1 centre.

The latter could change, of course, if the Senators somehow manage to swing a trade for a prolific middle man between now and then. But as it stands, Turris is the primary candidate to fill the front line job left vacant by the departure of Jason Spezza.

Some say he's not yet a qualified No. 1 centre on a team that hopes to contend. Others believe he was one last season. They argue that Turris, with Clarke MacArthur and Bobby Ryan, was more prominent than Spezza and whoever he was between.

But Turris himself didn't see it quite that way.
