LOS ANGELES - Breaking up is hard to do.

That's what it has come to for captain Jason Spezza and the Senators. Now, GM Bryan Murray has to find the right deal to make sure they go their separate ways as smoothly as possible.

Those who think the Senators are better off without him are about to find out that's likely not the case but the situation in Ottawa has gotten to the point where he's had enough.

It was bound to end sooner -- or later -- for Spezza and the Senators. In the final year of a contract with a cap hit of $7 million per-season, a decision was going to have to be made this summer.

All Spezza's trade demand has done is expedite the process for Murray and left him dealing from a difficult position, much the same way he was when Dany Heatley wanted out.

The question many will ask is: Why?
