OTTAWA - The eyes of the hockey world will be on the Staples Center Wednesday as the Stanley Cup final gets underway.
But once the coveted chalice has been handed out to the New York Rangers or Los Angeles Kings sometime in the next two weeks then the focus will turn to what's happening off the ice.
Senators GM Bryan Murray has been going about his business working the phones to see if he can find the right fit for captain Jason Spezza before the NHL entry draft June 27 in Philadelphia.
While there has been plenty of interest in Spezza, because there aren't many No. 1 pivots with more than 90 points available, those talks won't get serious until next week in New York.
That's when the NHL's 30 general managers -- Pittsburgh will likely have a representative there -- will gather on Broadway for their annual meeting during the Stanley Cup final.
