SUNRISE, FLA. - For the second time in 24 hours, the Senators coughed up a two-goal, second period lead.

On this night, they fell in the shootout.

Brandon Pirri’s goal was the decider as the Senators dropped a 3-2 decision to the lowly Florida Panthers – a game Ottawa really had to win.

Earning one point when they are so desperate for more made it a crushing defeat for the Senators, who are off now until Friday’s home game against the Chicago Blackkawks.

Mark Stone and Clarke MacArthur had the Senators goals, while Sean Bergenheim and Vincent Trocheck scored for Florida.

Playing his second game in consecutive nights, Robin Lehner once again stood tall in the Senators net, making 39 saves.
