The NHL trade deadline is behind us and now the focus is on the playoffs as there was a lot of talk but not a lot of action last Wednesday.

Oh, there was a flurry of trades at the end, but not nearly as many with as big of an impact.

Not as many first- round picks changed hands as in past years.

“Teams aren’t like they used to be. They want to get value for draft picks,” said a league executive after the deadline. “We found that teams put a much heavier emphasis on picks. They don’t want to just give them away anymore.
