OTTAWA - If the Senators do qualify for the playoffs, they may very well look back at the night of Feb. 4 as their springboard.

Their St. Louis Experience was truly uplifting.

They were not intimidated by the almighty Blues, who had claimed 43 of a possible 54 points on home ice and who, despite pre-game claims to the contrary by coach Ken Hitchcock, were clearly looking to avenge a Zack Smith hit on Alex Steen in December.

They stormed back from a 3-1 third period deficit to overtake the Blues and then, when they lost the lead on goalie Robin Lehner's only flawed moment in facing a 50-shot barrage, out-gunned their hostile hosts in a five-round shootout.
