OTTAWA - The drive from Shawville to Buffalo only took Tim Murray six hours Wednesday.

The trip to becoming an NHL general manager was a lot longer -- with road blocks along the way. But the 50-year-old Murray officially arrived Thursday when he was named to the post of the proud Sabres' franchise.

Buffalo president Pat LaFontaine completed his exhaustive search for a replacement for Darcy Regier by hiring the Senators' assistant GM and handing over the reins of the hockey department to Murray, who has spent his life in hockey.

As the Ottawa Sun reported, it's expected Pierre Dorion and Randy Lee will be named assistant GMs in Ottawa.
