Of course Bobby Ryan can spell intence, um, intense.

"I know he's an OHL player," said Craig Anderson, "but I went to the OHL too, and I'm a pretty good speller."

All the same, yours truly had to put Ryan to the test Thursday morning, mere hours after Team USA's Brian Burke was quoted calling the Senators winger "passive" in meetings to decide the roster for the country's Olympic team.

In case you missed it, this is what Burke said about Ryan in a fine story written by our buddy, Scott Burnside, of ESPN.com.

"He is not intense. That word is not in his vocabulary. It's never going to be in his vocabulary. He can't spell intense."

So Bobby, can you spell intense?

"Yeah, I probably could get by," Ryan said with a chuckle, before turning dead serious. "That's pretty gutless, almost, to say about a player. But that's Burkie's opinion. We've always had a good relationship."
