OTTAWA - Bryan Murray wants to stick around.

Eugene Melnyk wants to keep the veteran GM. All they have to do is work out the details.

The Senators’ owner, in town for his 10th annual charity skate for kids Monday afternoon at the Canadian Tire Centre, said he’s had talks with Murray about a contract extension.

While Melnyk called the discussions with Murray, 71, preliminary, it’s believed the two sides have talked about a one-year deal and will continue until a deal is in place with his contract set to expire in July.

“We’ve had some preliminary talks,” said Melnyk. “I would love to see (Murray) next year and he would love to finish off (his career) with a Stanley Cup and I would like to see him leave with a Stanley Cup."
