RALEIGH, N.C. - On Grey Cup Sunday, Paul MacLean gave Robin Lehner a chance to carry the ball and run with it.

Unfortunately, for the club’s backup goalie and the Senators the result was the same old story in a 4-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes Sunday night at the PNC Arena.

Troubled by inconsistency, the Senators – who have only won two in a row twice this season – couldn’t build on a 4-2 victory over Detroit Saturday night as only captain Jason Spezza was able to beat Cam Ward on 36 shots.

Eric Staal had a three point effort while Elias Lindholm, Tuomo Ruutu and Patrick Dwyer beat Lehner on the 36 shots he faced. No, the finger can’t be pointed only at Lehner, however, he wasn’t able to save the Senators.
